*	Elyon (Jonathan TR): Greetings, fellow ascenders, this is
Elyon. I am always grateful to have your attention. It is with
great expectancy that I come before you to offer my contribution
to your growth, for I see you each developing well and perceive
wonderful advancements in your near future. You are reaching a
maturity wherein you are balanced between your personal desires
and goals for your lives and your cosmic universal ideals.
Often one finds on your world a tendency for the
religiously inspired to create a battle between self and the
high ideals of spirit, to fight between self will and obedience
to the will of God. Such a conflict does not provide
opportunity for the greater advancement of truth nor for the
establishment of the goodness of balance. It is worthwhile for
the mind of the human being to seek the overcare of God as
discernible in His will, for it provides guidelines for self.
The will of God is so expansive that no human mind can grasp the
entirety of the purpose of deity at any one time. So, when I
speak of the will of God today I speak of His will in relation
to you and your potential and destiny.
You know how the Father has decreed that you become perfect
as He is perfect, to unfold the talents within you, bestowed
upon you, and to be like Him as a creator by creating in your
life the avenues through which your growth may take place. You
understand that your will as a temporal human being is
sovereign, that even the Father’s Presence within you is
subservient to your will. Yet you know spiritual success is
derived from following the Father’s will. Father is present not
only as a spirit entity that dwells within but, just as light is
cast from flame, Father is present as truth, beauty, and
goodness. These rays of deity are the spiritual coordinates
through which you guide yourself to Paradise.
Your personal will is like the sextant of the sailor that
tunes in to the guiding stars of truth, beauty, and goodness in
order that you may chart your course safely to the Father of
all, the Father of you. Your will then is sole authority in
determining your future and in discerning Father’s will. The
will of God may be thought of as an arena of truth and beauty
and goodness. Within that arena you function as a perceiver of
that truth, as a promoter as well, and as a preserver.
Cultivate the desire to discover, and you will function as
a perceiver of truth and beauty and goodness. Cultivate the
courage to function as a bearer of truth, as a being of
goodness. And cultivate the stability of responsibility, never
faltering, never flinching when the reality of truth is before
you, never shrinking when you must stand for truth in the event
of the presence of evil. In doing this you fulfill the will of
God, all the while you have the Supreme freedom to choose
specifics, to select the details of your promotion, perception,
and preservation of goodness, beauty, and truth.
Each one of you functions in this threefold manner, and you
become at one time as a prophet who can conceive the divine
arrangement, who can coordinate the will of God to make it
applicable to the human condition. You also function as a
politician, one who endeavors to accommodate the will of self to
the will of Father to establish means whereby truth is promoted,
goodness upheld, and beauty amplified. It is a function of
diplomacy or, more often called in the spiritual life, balance.
You also function at times of temptation and threat as a police
enforcer, the quality within you which is of the character of a
Mighty Messenger, one who will die for the right, one who will
stand up for the good, one who is not afraid to offer light in
the struggle against darkness.
My friends, it is the values of Supremacy, the reality of
goodness, of righteousness, of truth and beauty that is the
discernible element of the Father’s will to the human
personality. To fulfill that will is to function as I have
described, to choose to do so yourself, to be discerning, and to
be determined and not to be dissuaded.
I am willing to receive from you your comments. Thank you
for listening.

Jada: You gave us a lot to think about. You said the will
is like a sextant to perceive the guiding stars. I’m having
trouble grasping how the will functions that way. Could you
elaborate?

*	Elyon: The will is equipped with the ability to measure
reality, to discern and respond to the conditions of reality.
The sense of physical constraints and conditions, the sense of
attraction to spirit, and the sense of right and wrong are all
parts of this sextant. It is through the use of this instrument
of will, the adjustment of its components, the orientation
toward Father, that you locate yourself within this universe,
not merely the universe of planets, but the universe of beings
as well; the universe of all that is real.
When a sailor measures the sky there is not merely one
course to take to reach a destination. The sailor may choose
many directions all the while maintaining an orientation toward
the destiny. While the Father’s truth and beauty and goodness
are ever present, the responsibility of the discernment is
yours. And the mere looking into the night sky with the unaided
eye, while it may attract one to God, the Father’s will is
better discerned with accurate instruments and in the case of
your being, that accuracy is developed through your attention,
through your ability to discern the development of your insight,
the application of wisdom all overshadowed by will. To be a
follower of the will of God requires that you are active
willfully yourself as would a sailor pick up a sextant to read
the skies.
One does not follow the Father’s will by casting the
instrument aside and floating adrift expecting to be
mysteriously guided to destination. You will be required to
discern and adjust your course under your own power as you seek
the will of God and bring it into function in your life.
	I hope this helps.

Jada: Yes. It seems like the key here is the dedication
of our will to doing the Father’s will.

*	Elyon: And to follow our metaphor, that dedication is the
orienting of your instrument of discernment toward the will of
God.

Evelyn: The Urantia Book gives us the definition of doing
God’s will as the willingness to share our inner life with Him.
That has been nice and simple and easy to memorize. I like how
you have expanded our understanding of God’s will to include
truth, beauty, and goodness, which are graspable realities we
are familiar with. That makes God’s will that much more
approachable.

*	Elyon: The phrase “sharing the inner life with God” as
being the function of doing the Father’s will is comforting to
the soul, is inspiring of love, brings the warmth of
relationship, offers the hand of care, the support of
association. These conditions found in sharing bring great
comfort and bring identity. It is the sense of being in the
Father’s will. What I spoke of today is more the technique of
doing the Father’s will, more of the functions of the mind in
discernment than the soul in relationship. As you have pointed
out this sharing, the two functions in harmony bring even
greater happiness and security to the personality.
I will draw a close to our session and encourage you to
this day give thanks to God for the opportunity each moment to
discern His will. Offer yourselves in love as a servant by
manifesting your discernment of truth, by reflecting beauty and
goodness in your actions. The tasks of the human being are
often filled with work, objective and labor, but all times may
be taken playfully, in spirit, for every undertaking is only a
context wherein you may enhance your discernment and refine your
expression of the Father’s will.
	Farewell.
